The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has announced that over 1 million pensioners and those receiving Carer's Allowance will receive a £10 Christmas Bonus this winter. The one-off payment will be paid automatically in early December and will provide much-needed financial support to those who may be struggling during the festive period.
Who Is Eligible For The Christmas Bonus?
To be eligible for the Christmas Bonus, you must have been receiving one of the following benefits on December 5th, 2022:
- State Pension
- Carer's Allowance
How Much Is The Christmas Bonus?
The Christmas Bonus is a one-off payment of £10. It will be paid automatically into the bank account you receive your benefits into. You do not need to apply for the payment.
When Will I Receive The Christmas Bonus?
The Christmas Bonus will be paid in early December. The exact date will vary depending on your payment date. You should receive the payment by December 15th at the latest.
Winter Fuel Payments To Also Increase
In addition to the Christmas Bonus, the DWP has also announced that Winter Fuel Payments will increase by £50 to £300 for the 2022/23 winter period. These payments are available to people who were born on or before September 25, 1956.
The Winter Fuel Payment is not taxable and does not affect other benefits you may be receiving. It is paid automatically in November or December. You do not need to apply for the payment.
