Davis Cup Harris Evans Seal Gb Knockout Place

Davis Cup: Harris, Evans seal GB knockout place

British number one Cameron Norrie was beaten by Tommy Paul in the third singles match, but Great Britain had already secured their place in the Davis Cup quarter-finals thanks to wins from Dan Evans and Lloyd Harris.

Norrie, who had won his previous two matches in the group stages, was beaten in straight sets by Paul, but Evans and Harris secured the win with a doubles victory over Rajeev Ram and Jack Sock.

Great Britain will now face either Germany or Australia in the quarter-finals, with the draw to take place later on Thursday.

Norrie's defeat was a disappointing end to what had been a promising day for Great Britain, with Evans and Harris both winning their singles matches to put the team on the verge of victory.

Evans defeated American Taylor Fritz in straight sets, while Harris fought back from a set down to beat Frances Tiafoe.

The victory was a major boost for Great Britain, who had not reached the knockout stages of the Davis Cup since 2016.

The team will now be hoping to continue their good form and reach the last four of the competition for the first time since 1981.

The quarter-finals will take place on Friday and Saturday, with the semi-finals and final taking place on Sunday.
